How to make art for social media
Here we are going to talk a little about creating pieces (arts, popularly speaking) for the social networks. But I believe that among the millions of thoughts that inhabit the minds of creatives, words like “colors”, “harmony” and “pattern” came to the fore. And really, these are one of the basic pillars.
According to writer Robin Williams in her book “Design for non-designers”, there are at least 4 design principles that promise to guide people’s creative side, namely:
Proximity
When elements are related, they must be grouped together, seeking to become a visual unit. The main purpose is to maintain the organization.
Alignment
Here it is taught that nothing should be placed randomly in a layout. There must be a connection between one element and another so that the art is clean and more visually pleasing. But don’t stay in your comfort zone by using only the centered alignment in the art, also take a risk in the left and right alignments for different arts, right?
Repeat
At this point, the writer talks about times when the same elements must be used more than once in art, be they icons, figures, texture, or even color. Using repetitions facilitates the organization and reaffirms the units of art. For example, the topics of these tips here are repetitions that take you one by one to the past information about the 4 principles of design. But be careful, avoid repeating the same element many times so that, instead of having ‘perfect art for social networks’, you end up creating a tiresome and even confusing piece.
Contrast
Contrast is important and when there is no contrast there is conflict, so if 2 elements are not exactly the same, differentiate them. Highlight certain elements so they don’t all have the same weight. Do this by changing the size, color, format, and even the thickness of the text.
Here we quote some tips from the writer Robin, but below we will say some more important aspects of creating art for social networks.
References
You can never let creative block stop you from creating perfect art for social media. Seeking ideas is essential for building art, but remember, these are just references, not copies. Make sure your creation doesn’t look too similar to projects created by other people.
Image Size
The size varies according to the social network and you need to be aware. On Instagram, for example, you can post in square, vertical, or horizontal format. Therefore, always research the ideal size for the social networks that you are thinking of promoting art.
